A services client came to us with a strange problem: healthy traffic, respectable rankings, and almost no enquiries. The website wasn't broken; it just wasn't built to convert. Over one weekend we shipped twelve changes. Enquiries doubled the following week and stayed there. Here's the list, in the order of impact.
The headline said what they do, not what you get
'Welcome to our website' became a one-line promise of outcome with the city name in it. Visitors decide in seconds; the headline has to do the selling.
The twelve changes
- Outcome-first headline with location
- Phone number clickable and visible in the header on mobile
- WhatsApp button floating on every page, since half of Indian visitors prefer it to forms
- Form cut from nine fields to four
- Form moved above the fold on the top three landing pages
- Real photos of the team and premises replacing stock images
- Google reviews embedded next to the form
- Specific CTA copy: 'Get a free site visit' instead of 'Submit'
- Page speed: images compressed, unused scripts dropped, load time halved
- Prices shown as 'starting from' ranges, since hiding prices was costing trust
- One clear next step per page instead of six competing buttons
- A thank-you page that sets expectations: 'We'll call you within 2 working hours'
Why 'overnight' is honest here
None of these changes need a redesign, a migration, or a committee. They need one decision-maker and a weekend. Conversion optimisation gets framed as a dark art; for most small-business sites it's just removing friction that should never have shipped.
Traffic is what you pay for. Conversion is what you keep. Fix the bucket before you buy more water.
